Two Age Groups

Kids Taekwondo Classes for Ages 3+

Parents in Farmington Hills, Commerce, Walled Lake, Wixom and Novi tell us they're looking for one thing: a program that teaches real self-defense awareness while building the grit, focus, and mental toughness their kids will use for life. Storm Taekwondo is built around exactly that.

Ages 3 — 5

Mini Troopers

Preschool-friendly classes that build listening skills, coordination, and confidence. Short, structured, high-energy sessions designed for little legs and short attention spans.

Monday–Friday · 4:30–5:00 PM

Ages 6+

Kids Taekwondo / Storm Troopers

Full Taekwondo training — kicks, forms, sparring, belt progression — taught in a positive coaching environment that builds confidence, respect, and real martial arts skill.

Monday–Friday · 5:00–6:00 PM and 6:00–7:00 PM

A quick note: some parents search for “kids karate” when they're really looking for any structured martial art. Storm teaches Taekwondo (Olympic-style, WT / Kukkiwon aligned) — not karate — but the confidence, discipline, and skill-building benefits parents care about are exactly the same.

Mini Troopers is designed specifically for ages 3–5. Classes are short, fast-paced, and built around the way preschoolers actually learn — through games, repetition, and lots of positive coaching.

  • Listening skills and following directions
  • Balance, coordination, and motor skills
  • Confidence to try new things and bounce back
  • Basic Taekwondo movements and respect for the mat
  • A foundation for moving into Kids Taekwondo at age 6

  • Olympic-style Taekwondo (WT / Kukkiwon aligned)
  • Belt progression with clear, age-appropriate goals
  • Sparring fundamentals in a controlled, safe environment
  • Forms (poomsae), kicks, and self-defense techniques
  • A peer group of kids working toward the same goals

Confidence, Focus & Discipline

These are the words parents use when they tell us why they brought their kids to Storm — and what they noticed within a few months of training.

Confidence

Kids stand taller, speak up more, and believe they can take on hard things. Belt promotions give them visible proof of progress.

Focus

Drills require sustained attention. That focus carries over to homework, listening at home, and handling distractions at school.

Discipline

Showing up, putting in effort, and following the coach's instructions — these become habits that go far beyond the mat.

Active Bodies

Fitness, Coordination & Strength

Kids today sit a lot. Storm classes flip that — every session is an hour of running, jumping, kicking, stretching, and challenging the body in ways that build lifelong physical literacy.

  • Cardio endurance from drills, footwork and sparring
  • Leg strength and core stability from kicks and stance work
  • Coordination, agility, and balance — improving every week
  • Flexibility built progressively, not forced
  • A healthy outlet for energy that doesn't involve a screen

Respect, Goals & Self-Control

Storm coaches teach kids that real strength shows up as self-control. We don't use guilt or fear — just clear expectations, consistent coaching, and a culture of respect kids actually want to be part of.

Respect

For coaches, peers, parents, and themselves — the foundation of every class.

Goal Setting

Belts and stripes turn big goals into achievable steps kids can see and feel.

Self-Control

Kids learn to manage emotions and impulses — even when training gets intense.

Healthy Mind, Body & Spirit

Real Taekwondo is about tools for a healthy, balanced life — not just fighting.

Age 3 works in Storm’s 30-minute Mini Troopers class. Age 6 is the usual jump to full kids taekwondo in Farmington Hills.

Is taekwondo good for kids with ADHD?

Taekwondo is not an ADHD treatment. A short, coached class can give some kids practice at listening, moving, and finishing a drill.

Storm Mini Troopers and kids classes use structure, repetition, and a coach on the floor. Tell the coach how your child learns before the first class.

What is the best martial art for kids to start?

Pick a kids-first class with age bands, not an adult room that lets children stand in back.
